Things to consider when Remodeling a kitchen

A successful home remodeling project is only as good as the research and planning that goes into it. Below are some things to keep in mind. I personally like to meet with my clients and figure out what works best together. Often times I draw up a few different layouts to help give my clients a visual of what the space could look like.

1. Storage

Nothing makes people want to rethink their kitchens more than not having enough space to store the number of items they have, and we ALL have a lot of kitchen stuff.
Figuring out how to add the most cabinets and storage in an efficient and appealing way it crucial. A great example is a century home that had a booth in a nook of the small kitchen. The family never sat there, and it was rather outdated with carpeting on the bench seating. We took it out, started from scratch, and turned it into an amazing pantry. See the pics below.

2. Functionality

Things such as having workspace on both sides of the stove are important to consider. Obviously, you’ll want the dishwasher to be next to the sink, plenty of lighting where you’ll be working, and a solution for trash and recycling. This is where really thinking about all of the ways you use your kitchen on a daily basis comes into play. We can incorporate solutions that work for you and your family. Do the kids enjoy sitting at the counter and doing homework? We can include that in our plans. Or maybe you would like to have a more open kitchen for entertaining, we can take a look at if there’s a way to open up the space more.

3. All the bells and whistles

These days there are more items available to make kitchen work easier than ever! Under cabinet pull down spice racks or in drawer spice organization, hidden trash and recycling cabinets, soft close cabinets, and so much more are available to make your life in the heart of the home a little easier. Tech has really stepped into the kitchen space as well from smart appliances to voice activated lighting, we can help add technology into your kitchen if you choose.

4. Design and Style

Color alone can change the vibe of a living space. Going with greens and blues can create a more relaxing space while choosing a bright yellow for the walls gives off a happy, upbeat feeling. It’s important to consider countertops, backsplash tile, wall color, and flooring as a whole to see how it all works together to create your unique style. These days, a lot of people like the farmhouse style with white subway tile, white cabinetry, some rustic touches, and neutral colors. One thing I would like to mention is, try to stay away from fads. Think about the 1970’s pea green and burnt oranges with bold floral wallpapers. Going with neutral choices such as white cabinets or a simple tile backsplash can be timeless, and you can add your own individual style in the paint color, rugs, and decor. 10 years from now? Just paint and get some new decor for a fresh updated look.
