Things to consider when Remodeling Basement

A successful home remodeling project is only as good as the research and planning that goes into it. Below are some things to keep in mind. I personally like to meet with my clients and figure out what works best together. Often times I draw up a few different layouts to help give my clients a visual of what the space could look like. Basement projects range from simply adding some storage shelves, new paint, or flooring to entirely finishing an unfinished basement into something functional for the whole family. Either way, we are here to help! Below are a few things to consider when thinking of a basement project.

1. Moisture

Moisture is a home’s worst enemy. Before ever getting started on finishing or remodeling a basement it is imperative that we ensure there is not any moisture making its way into your basement, and if there is, find a way to remedy it.

2. Functionality

Everyone wants a home that functions well. Dad’s quiet office tucked away in a corner of the basement where can work undisturbed, mom’s awesome crafting room with tons of shelves and storage areas for all of her crafting supplies for her Etsy shop, the kids’ homeschool space complete with huge maps and boards on the wall and plenty of workspace, aging parent’s complete apartment with a comfortable bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and tv space for Wheel of Fortune after dinner. There’re so many options. But the first thing we need to do is figure out how many uses we can provide from the space in your basement. With a little planning and creativity, we can turn that dungeon into a palace.

Basement lighting is so important due to the lack of natural light coming in. Recessed lighting, egress windows, wall and flooring colors, and furniture choices can all make a space look brighter.
